About the Mural
Lance has conceptualized a beautiful mural for the inaugural Park Street Projects called "Asesin”, which in Cree means vamps.
"Vamps" or “tongues” or “uppers” are the tops of the moccasins and are usually filled with beadwork designs or family imagery. The Vamp tells a story by the artisan who creates it, and is a form of storytelling in itself. This story celebrates the beautiful flower patterns seen in many First Nations and Métis beadwork patterns. “I think it is always important to be a part of projects that represent and celebrate the rich Indigenous culture in our beautiful city, and also bring people together to create beautiful art that will enrich the lives and community spirit of ALL nations”, says Lance about his design.
The 7 piece collection is designed by Lance and will live in its permanent home at the Inglewood Community League Hall right near the community garden. Lance will be inviting members of Inglewood and neighbouring communities to help complete the mural during Culture Days on September 27, 2020. Sign ups are still available here!
